This page includes links to the texts and audio recordings from Tournadre & Dorje’s Manual of Standard Tibetan (MST). The material is designed for beginners, and it gradually increases in difficulty as you progress through the lessons. The texts are mostly dialogues, but a few of them are short paragraphs on Tibetan culture.
The electronic text of the MST is hosted on the Internet Archive. To view the full book you’ll need to create a free Internet Archive account and borrow it for an hour. Each lesson includes one or more Tibetan texts (either dialogues or paragraphs), each one with an accompanying English translation and audio recording.
There are three kinds of audio recordings listed on this page:
- audio is recorded at a normal pace.
- all lessons have audio
- slow audio is recorded at a slower pace.
- lessons 1-19 also have slow audio
- alternate audio is recorded at a normal pace, but by a third party
- lessons 1-7, 9-20, 26, 32, 36, and 38 also have at least one alternate audio available on the UVA site (date of access: April 2, 2023).
