Below (jump to list) is a list of freelance Tibetan language teachers that you can contact to ask about Tibetan language lessons. Each of the teachers listed has given me permission to put their information on my website. The list is programmatically randomized to avoid bias, so the order of the teachers changes every time you load the page.
I have not vetted these teachers, so it is up to you to determine who to learn from. By using this list, you take on all liability for any outcomes. Please remember that native Tibetan speakers have varying levels of language competency, teaching skills, and personal ethics.
You will have to arrange payment directly with the teacher; I do not get involved. Teachers may use a variety of different banking apps such as Western Union, Wise, Xoom, etc. to process payments. Teachers based in India typically charge between $5 and $15 USD for an hour-long lesson. In case the USD changes in value, it may be helpful to clarify that the lower end of this scale corresponds to roughly ₹500 (the ₹ symbol denotes Indian rupees.) You may want to ask if a teacher allows for a free trial lesson to see if you’re a good fit.
Most of the teachers on this list live in India, which has the area code +91. WhatsApp is a very popular messaging app among Tibetan teachers in India; it supports both text chat and video call. I would recommend downloading it and contacting teachers through it. You can add them using their phone number, and then message them on WhatsApp. Some teachers are active on language learning platforms like Preply or iTalki, but you’ll cast a wider net using WhatsApp. Some teachers may prefer to hold lessons on Zoom, Google Meet, or other platforms.
