Several news outlets publish articles in both English and Tibetan. The phrasing usually doesn’t match very closely between the two languages, but the gist of the article is the same. These articles are great for learning new vocabulary and practicing your reading skills without checking a dictionary so often.
It can be a bit tedious to find articles that exist in both languages, because most articles are not translated and the website layout may differ between the English and Tibetan versions. You can usually rely on the pictures, titles, and publication dates to find matching articles, with the pictures being most reliable. The publication date for each language often differs by several days.
This page contains a selection of 15 matching articles that I found in spring 2024.
Central Tibetan Administration (CTA): Tibetan, English
- Article one: Tibetan, English
- Article two: Tibetan, English
- Article three: Tibetan, English
- Article four: Tibetan, English
- Article five: Tibetan, English
Note: the CTA’s Tibetan articles always take several minutes to load in my browser.
The CTA’s weekly broadcasts on the TibetTV YouTube channel often read directly from their Tibetan-language articles. For example, this video discusses article two above beginning at minute 8:08, and then discusses article one beginning at minute 8:36. These broadcasts can therefore easily be used for audio practice.
Radio Free Asia (RFA): Tibetan, English
- Article one: Tibetan, English
- Article two: Tibetan, English
- Article three: Tibetan, English
- Article four: Tibetan, English
- Article five: Tibetan, English
I was unable to find corresponding audio for any of these articles on the RFATibetan YouTube channel.

Note: Tibet Times uses very similar phrasing for both languages, compared to other outlets.
I was unable to find corresponding audio for any of these articles on the Tibet Times YouTube channel. Tibet Times publishes relatively few videos compared to TibetTV and RFATibetan.
